The Mission of the Catholic Community of South Baltimore is to know, love and serve God and embrace our wider family by living the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy: following the example of Christ, caring for all of God's creations, and protecting the dignity of life.

All-American Cookout to support crews of ships docked
in the Inner Harbor

Saturday, April 27 @ two South Baltimore Ports
At present, there are several hundred men and women (even beyond those on the damaged Dali) who are unseen and perhaps unthought of; stranded on board the containerships stuck on the port-side of the wreckage.

Are you, your family and friends able to help us provide an “All-American Cookout” comfort meal for the crews of the dozen or so vessels stranded inside their various port of Baltimore berths? These crews have waited three weeks thus far and will have to wait still for an as yet unknown number of weeks more. We are planning to serve them lunch - sharing food, fun and fellowship.

public feedback sessions

April 29, 7-8:30pm @ Our Lady of Fatima, 6400 E Pratt St, 21224 (SPANISH ONLY (ESPAÑOL)) or Attend Virtually

April 30, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.:
Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, 5200 N. Charles St. 21210 or Attend Virtually
There will be no 7pm Mass at GC on Tuesday evening 4/30.

Please attend one of the two Open Prayerful Discernment Sessions where the draft model/map for what the landscape of the Catholic Church in Baltimore City could look like will be presented. The Open Public Sessions will be held in a synod-style structure that involves prayer, reflection, sharing, and listening. The proposal will be presented, and feedback will be welcome. There will be a time for individual feedback to be collected, followed by one representative from each parish sharing on behalf of the parish. Fr. Kevin is working with the CCSB representative to prepare remarks.

VIRTUAL PARTICIPATION: Those who attend online can log into the sessions from home. They will be able to follow along with the prayer and reflection, view the presentation section, and share thoughts and feedback via chat during the feedback periods online. This will be collected as official feedback and addressed at the meeting, time permitting. If you cannot make either meeting, you can also send recommendations to https://www.archbalt.org/seekthecity/contact-us/.

Currently, the proposal is to close both St. Mary Star of the Sea and Our Lady of Good Counsel. Parishioners are encouraged to formulate questions and recommendations and present them at the meetings; specifically, what is the feedback that will help to inform the final decision in a constructive manner, and provide opportunity to address revisions or resolutions to the proposal?

TRANSPORTATION: We are coordinating transportation for both sessions. If you'd like a ride in the CCSB van (meeting at either Holy Cross or Good Counsel to catch a ride), email deb.airey@archbalt.org with your name and phone number, or call the office at 410-752-8498. We also encourage you to wear your CCSB T-shirts. Please bring your smart phones as the event will use technology.

WHAT TO BRING: We encourage you to bring a smartphone, and to wear any CCSB t-shirt, hat, etc.

If you'd like to purchase a t-shirt or hat, please:

  • Venmo @CCSB9 with memo "Merch" and send a screenshot of your payment ($15 shirt, $10 hat) to beth.mayr@archbalt.org with your size and preference of navy or aqua shirt (both are the newer, softer style)

  • Prefer to pay by cash or check? Totally fine - reach out to Beth Mayr to coordinate

For those interested in a shirt before Tuesday's session, please reach out by Monday evening.

join martha ministry - help with light tasks

We are in need of at least 10-15 sets of hands who are able to join our Martha Ministry. This is a great ministry for those who may have minimal time to give per week, but are interested in helping with light tasks! We are looking to establish the care team in charge of tidying our worship spaces weekly. This includes:

  • Watering flowers when they are present (like our Easter lilies right now!) along with any outdoor flower pots.

  • Making sure hymnals are back in carts at SM and HC and are upright and straightened or are upright and tidy in pew backs at GC without bulletins or pew art sandwiched in the pages

  • Picking up any left behind old bulletins or used pew art

  • Some light sweeping/swiffering or dusting

In general, just making sure that our spaces are neat and presentable! This will not be any kind of deep clean!

Once we build up a list of willing helpers we will coordinate a regular schedule of when is best for all. Suggested time frame would be a quick 10-15 minute group tidy following each of our weekend masses, so each team could just squeeze in a tidy up after the mass you regularly attend!

5-5:15pm on Saturdays at SM | 10-10:15am OR 6-6:15pm at HC | 12-12:15pm at GC

Are you willing to help in establishing a regular care team to make sure that our worship spaces are beautiful?! JOIN NOW

Calling All Harmony Singers - Music Ministry needs you!

May 7, 7-8:30pm @ Holy Cross for Open Music Practice
CCSB is recruiting for basses, tenors, and altos for our ensembles. If you love to make music and have some time to give, come check us out at our open music practice. Drop in to sing along with us with no pressure to commit to regular participation. Then, stick around for our regular monthly social following practice – every first Tuesday we walk to Outpost as a group for beverages and snacks!

Following this, if you are interested in regularly participating with music ministry, we would love to have you! Volunteer commitment to music ministry can be flexible based on your schedule - you are encouraged to join even if you are not able to be present every single weekend; we'd still love to have you and your talent!

Interested in the open practice? RSVP to Ashley at ashley.powers@archbalt.org

stewardship

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of you who have so generously given to the parish. Please consider making a gift to help support our mission either online, through Venmo (@ccsb9), or by mailing/dropping off a payment at the office (110 East West Street). There are a variety of ways to support the parish family:

Chapter 11 Publication Notice and Related Information

The Archdiocese of Baltimore is in a Chapter 11 Reorganization process and as we all work through these steps, there are some items that the parish is doing to fulfill the court ordered requirements. One of those requirements is for all parishes and schools to make public that a final date has been decided upon that will serve as a deadline for anyone who has a claim, to submit it to the court.

DEADLINE: MAY 31, 2024

The purpose of sharing and posting this information is to make sure we inform as many people as possible about the final date to file a claim. We understand that this announcement is a reminder of that tragic time. We appreciate your patience as we share this information. Please see here for more information or visit www.archbalt.org.

Thank you,

Fr. Kevin Ewing
